About Kathak: Kathak is one of the eight classical dance forms of India, originating from the northern regions. The word "Kathak" comes from the Sanskrit word katha, meaning "story," and the dance form is known for its powerful storytelling through intricate footwork, graceful spins, and expressive hand gestures. Traditionally performed by wandering bards who recounted mythological tales, Kathak has evolved into a sophisticated dance style blending rhythm, movement, and emotion. It is characterized by complex rhythmic patterns (talas), swift pirouettes, and the use of ghungroos (ankle bells) to accentuate its lively footwork. Kathak also incorporates elements of both devotional and courtly performances, making it a captivating balance of technical precision and artistic expression.

About Diwali: Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is one of the most significant festivals in India, celebrated by millions of people across the globe. It marks the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. Traditionally, Diwali is celebrated over five days, with each day having its own cultural and spiritual significance. The festival is associated with the return of Lord Rama to his kingdom after a 14-year exile and his victory over the demon king Ravana, symbolizing the victory of righteousness. Homes are lit with diyas (oil lamps), colorful rangoli designs adorn entrances, and firecrackers light up the sky.

This joyous time is also marked by family gatherings, delicious sweets, and the exchange of gifts. As Diwali approaches, it brings a sense of new beginnings, making it the perfect backdrop for our Indian classical Kathak dance evening on November 2nd. The elegance and spirituality of Kathak beautifully complement the celebratory and reflective spirit of Diwali, offering a rich cultural experience.
